Collaborative Learning : as a student
Often, students learn as much from one another, as they do from textbooks and lectures. Engaged in discussion of relevant topics, students can encourage one another to
* think about alternative view points
* explore their own assumptions more deeply
* gain new perspectives on topics
I had the opportunity to set up discussion forums on two occasions :

I had the opportunity to set up discussion forums on two occasions :
- The first relates to a unit on biodiversity. The video above is a short documentary of the wiki page that developed out of this unit. More can be viewed in the discussion tabs of the global warming section of my classroom wiki.
- The second is a more formal set up in the course management system Moodle, The forum there was developed during the class E-learning for educators and is a discussion about Fostering 21st century skills and critical thinking in the classroom,
Collaboration with colleagues : Diigo
One of the benefits of collaboration during a class is that it provides the student with a new source of help.
I learned this while taking a class called E-learning for educators. The course participants ranged in skill level from brand new to online forums for learning to those who already taught courses on line and were seeking a master's degree in education with a concentration in online teaching.
Together, we collaborated to create a collection of relevant on line reading and Web 2.0 tools. This link will take you to the diigo digital library for the E-Learning for Educators group.
